Wonders of Southern Italy

Pizza, mozzarella and the authentic flavours of the ancient Mediterranean cuisine

Discover the South of Italy, a land of ancient origins that proudly shows the signs of time. Greek and Roman temples, precious Baroque churches and medieval castles melt and create unique cities of art. The visit of these great open air museums is accompanied with unforgettable food & wine experiences, with recipes and products famous all over the world.

Transfer from Naples international Airport to Pompei.

After lunch, visit to the renowned archaeological site of Pompei, the city destroyed by the eruption of the Vesuvius. There, great frescoes and buildings are still well preserved and tell the incredible history of the ancient city.

Transfer to the hotel in Paestum and welcome dinner.

We board on a ferry from the city of Salerno and navigate along the Amalfi coast until the enchanting village of Amalfi: during the ferry trip we can enjoy unforgettable views over the coastline. Take some time to wander around Amalfi, up and down its small alleys, among colourful houses, panoramic terraces and citrus groves.

In the afternoon, visit to Salerno, including the Duomo and the crypt of San Matteo, richly decorated in Baroque style. The day ends perfectly with a tasting of pizza, the great classic of the region.

In the morning we take part in a truffle hunt, a great experience among the forest of the Salerno mountain, accompanied by a truffle expert and his dogs.

Lunch in a farm surrounded by green countryside: there we taste truffle-based delicacie.

In the late afternoon, easy walk in Agropoli, along the seaside promenade and its typical narrow alleys.

Right in front of our hotel lies the ancient city of Poseidonia: we’ll visit the archaeological site that features impressive and well-preserved temples.

After this dive in ancient history, it is time to please our appetite by visiting a small dairy factory  where the classic buffalo mozzarella is produced: the tasting of mozzarella is one of the highlights of the trip! We also think about the dessert: after the dairy, we visit a farm that makes fig-based products.

A dinner in a famous Michelin-awarded restaurant is a great end for this day.

A three-hour transfer will take us to the city of Matera. We’ll have a break half way through the journey to visit the village of Castelmezzano, listed as one of the beautiful villages of Italy. Situated at the foot of dramatic mountains, Castelmezzano is a fairy tale village where history meets nature.

After the visit to the village we continue towards Matera: there, we’ll live the unique experience of staying in the Sassi, houses carved in stone since ancient times.

Matera, UNESCO heritage site, is a unique city where noble palaces, houses carved in stone and rupestrian churches painted with frescoes are found side by side. Thanks to its great landscapes, the city has been chosen as the set of many movies.

After the guided visit and the lunch, free time to explore the city: every little corner of Matera hides great treasures!

We head towards Puglia, “the heel of Italy”. On the way, we stop in Alberobello, listed as one of the most beautiful villages of Italy. It is also listed as a UNESCO heritage site thanks to its unique architecture. The village centre and the surrounding countryside are characterised by the trulli, cone-shaped houses built with dry-stone method.

The day ends in a typical masseria, an ancient farm surrounded by endless olive groves and now converted into an agriturismo.

In the morning we visit a masseria built in the XV century that has been converted into an organic winery. There we taste the famous and full-bodied Apulian wines accompanied with a refined lunch.

After lunch, we move to Ostuni, called the “white town”: the white colour of the houses is almost dazzling and the town stands out over the green countryside and the blue sea in the background.

A captivating and entertaining cooking class ends the day: there we learn the most famous Apulian recipes.

Extra-virgin olive oil has always been one of the main products of Puglia. We’ll taste different varieties of olive oil in a masseria surrounded by olive groves.

After the tasting, we head towards Polignano a Mare, a charming village built on high cliffs overlooking the sea, the perfect location for great photos: there we’ll enjoy a nice fish-based lunch.

In the afternoon we dive deep into the caves of Castellana, where the rocks have been shaped by the water over thousands of years.

Long transfer to Naples, last destination of the trip. On the way to Naples, we stop in Trani, a beautiful town facing the sea, where cobbled narrow alleys flanked by white houses lead to the magnificent cathedral, with its high bell tower overlooking the town and the sea.

In the late afternoon we reach Naples and can accommodate in our hotel facing the sea. The dinner features the top of Neapolitan food: there is no better ending for the day!

Naples is an amazing city with outstanding cultural and gastronomic traditions, both recognised by UNESCO. We visit the city centre passing by the most famous monuments. The walk ends in a restaurant where we taste one of the greatest treasures of Naples, the pizza.

The afternoon is free: enjoy the vibrant life of Naples! The trip ends with a refined dinner in a Michelin-starred restaurant.

After breakfast in the hotel, transfer to Naples-Capodichino airport. End of services.
